Paragon Performance Brakes for BMW M2, M3 & M4 (F8x & G8x)

Chicane Australia stocks the Paragon Performance brake range for BMW's most track-driven modern M cars — F87 M2, F80 M3 and F82/F83 M4 from the previous generation, and G87 M2, G80 M3 and G82/G83 M4 from the current generation. These cars share a common engineering heritage: twin-turbo inline six power (S55 on F8x, S58 on G8x), serious weight (1,600–1,800kg kerb depending on spec), and owners who track them hard. The factory brake package is genuinely capable — M Compound steel rotors on F8x, upgraded hardware on G8x, with competent four or six-piston calipers — but the M platform has two consistent track-day failure modes: front rotor cracking and brake fluid boil from heat transfer through the caliper pistons. Paragon addresses both directly, with 2-piece rotors to solve the thermal capacity and weight problem, and titanium pad shims to solve the fluid-boil problem.

The Paragon Range for F8x and G8x M Cars

2-Piece Rotors — Weight Reduction & Thermal Isolation

Paragon's 2-piece rotors pair a high-carbon cast iron friction ring with a CNC-machined aluminium centre hat and stainless floating hardware. Three benefits for the M platform specifically:

  • Weight reduction — typically 3–4kg per corner versus factory M Compound rotors. On a 1,700kg+ M car with wide fronts, the lower unsprung mass is genuinely felt in turn-in response and steering feedback.
  • Thermal isolation — the aluminium hat insulates the wheel bearing from the heat soak generated during hard braking. On an M car that spends time at the track, hub bearings take a beating from rotor heat; the 2-piece design protects them.
  • Replaceable friction rings — when the ring wears out, you replace just the ring, not the complete rotor. Over three or four seasons of track use on a hard-driven M car, the running cost is significantly lower than replacing complete M Compound rotors.

Straight-groove slot pattern as standard. Direct bolt-on to the factory M Compound brake package on F8x and G8x — no bracket changes, no caliper relocation.

Titanium Pad Shims — The Brake Fluid Boil Solution

A critical Paragon product for this platform specifically. F8x M cars in particular are known for boiling brake fluid before the pads fade — the caliper pistons conduct heat directly from the back of the pad into the fluid, and after several hard laps the fluid hits its boiling point and the pedal goes to the floor. Paragon titanium shims sit between the pad backing plate and the caliper piston, reducing heat transfer by up to 60°C. This is often the single cheapest, highest-impact upgrade an F80 M3 or F82 M4 track owner can make. G8x platform owners benefit equally despite the updated brake system — the fundamental physics of pad-to-piston heat transfer hasn't changed.

Fitment by Generation

F80 M3, F82 M4, F83 M4, F87 M2 (2014–2020)

The S55-powered previous generation. Factory M Compound steel rotors with either the standard M brake package or the optional M Carbon Ceramic Brake (CCB) option — Paragon rotors are designed to replace the steel M Compound setup (not the CCB). 380mm front / 370mm rear on the M3/M4, with larger hardware on the later M4 CS and M2 CS/Competition variants. Paragon 2-piece rotors are direct bolt-on replacements. Titanium pad shims are particularly valuable on this generation — this is the M car that earned the platform its reputation for boiling brake fluid at track days.

G80 M3, G82 M4, G83 M4, G87 M2 (2021+)

The current S58-powered generation — heavier than the F8x, more power (353kW on the CS, 390kW on the CSL), and an updated brake system. Factory rotors are larger and the caliper design is revised, but the overall thermal load on track is higher because the car is faster and heavier. Paragon 2-piece rotors for the G8x are fitment-specific — confirm chassis code and production year when ordering. The G87 M2 shares most brake hardware with the G80/G82 platform.

M3 E90 / E92 / E93 (2007–2013) — Included for Context

Choosing the Right Paragon Setup for Your M Car

Street-Driven M Car with Spirited Use

If your factory M Compound rotors are worn, cracked or warped — or you just want to reduce unsprung weight and improve steering response — Paragon 2-piece rotors are the upgrade. Pair with a street-performance pad (DIXCEL Z Type for spirited driving with low noise) and fresh high-temperature brake fluid.

Regular Track Days — F8x or G8x

The three-part upgrade for any F8x or G8x M car that sees track time:

  1. Paragon 2-piece rotors — front and rear, for the weight reduction, thermal capacity and replaceable rings.
  2. Paragon titanium pad shims — to prevent brake fluid boil on hot days or long stints.
  3. Track-compound pads (DIXCEL ES, RE or Specom) — compound matched to your driving intensity.

This three-part setup fixes the F8x/G8x platform's two known track-day weaknesses (front rotor cracking and brake fluid boil) without replacing the capable factory caliper.

Hardcore Track Build — CS, CSL, Competition Package

The higher-performance variants (M4 CS, M4 CSL, M2 CS, M3/M4 Competition) already come from the factory with uprated brakes — often larger rotors and revised pad compounds. Paragon 2-piece rotors for these fitments preserve the factory caliper package while delivering the serviceability and thermal benefits of two-piece construction. For dedicated competition use, combine with race-compound pads and full brake ducting.

  • Solves the F8x brake fluid boil problem — titanium pad shims are the single most effective solution for the heat-transfer issue that plagues F80/F82 M cars at track days. Cheap, easy to install, and they work.
  • Serviceability matters on a hard-driven M car — Paragon 2-piece rotors use replaceable friction rings. Over a track-focused ownership period, the running cost versus replacing complete factory rotors is significantly lower.
