Scorpion Exhausts | Hand-Crafted British Performance Systems

Scorpion Exhausts Australia

We fit Scorpion cat-back systems on everything from daily-driven Golf Rs around Sydney to trackday Civic Type Rs at Wakefield Park. Scorpion is a UK exhaust manufacturer known for T304 stainless construction, mandrel-bent piping and a strong reputation for getting the tone right without turning the cabin into an echo chamber. We stock and recommend their systems because we have actually installed them, not because they are the only option on a supplier list.

Why Scorpion

Scorpion builds in T304 stainless steel, so systems hold up to Australian conditions without rusting out. The mandrel-bent piping keeps gas flow smooth, which is where the power gain and the improved throttle response actually come from, not just a louder note. On resonated systems the internal silencer packing is tuned to cut the harsh mid-range drone that cheaper systems suffer from, so you get a proper exhaust note without it becoming tiring on a long drive. Non-resonated systems drop that extra silencer for a louder, more raw tone, better suited to track cars than daily drivers. Valved systems on the RS3 and Focus RS work with the factory drive mode switching, so the car stays quiet in comfort and opens up in sport or track modes.

Fitment & Installation

Cat-back and GPF-back systems are bolt-on and do not affect the factory catalytic converter or GPF, so they will not trigger a check engine light and generally need no tune. Sports-cat and de-cat downpipes are a different story. On the Golf R and Civic Type R, removing or downgrading the cat almost always needs a supporting ECU tune to stop fuelling and boost related fault codes, and on the Golf R specifically we have seen the factory valve controller wiring need re-routing or an aftermarket controller to keep the valve function working correctly once the downpipe is changed.

AU-delivered cars have their own quirks worth knowing. The GR Yaris GXPA16 sold here is RHD-specific, so exhaust hanger positions and heat shield clearance around the rear subframe need checking against the local chassis, not just the JDM or UK reference car. On the Golf R, the MK7.5 and MK8 use different rear section pipe diameters, so a system built for one will not bolt straight onto the other even though the cars look similar from underneath. Non-resonated systems on the Civic Type R can carry a noticeable drone around 2,000 to 2,500rpm on light throttle cruising, worth knowing before you commit if the car is your daily. De-cat downpipes are for race and motorsport use only and are not legal for road use in Australia. We always recommend checking your state's exhaust noise and modification rules before fitting a de-cat or non-resonated system.

FAQ
What is the difference between resonated and non-resonated?

A resonated system has an extra silencer chamber tuned to cancel specific frequencies, giving a deeper, more refined note suited to daily driving. A non-resonated system is straight-through, so it is louder and more raw, better suited to track use.

Will a Scorpion exhaust trigger a check engine light?

Cat-back and GPF-back systems will not trigger a CEL, since the factory cat or GPF stays in place. Sports-cat and de-cat downpipes usually will, unless it is paired with a supporting ECU tune. On the Golf R, watch the exhaust valve controller too: some de-cat setups need the valve controller retained or replaced to keep the valve operating properly.

Does a de-cat downpipe drone on the highway?

Non-resonated and de-cat setups can produce noticeable drone at certain RPM ranges, commonly reported around 2,000 to 2,500rpm on platforms like the Civic Type R. If the car is your daily driver, a resonated system is usually the better real-world choice.

Are de-cat downpipes road legal in Australia?

No. De-cat downpipes remove the catalytic converter and are for race and motorsport use only. Check your local state regulations before fitting one to a road-registered car.

Do MK7.5 and MK8 Golf R systems interchange?

No. The two generations use different rear section pipe diameters, so a Scorpion system built for a MK7.5 will not fit a MK8 without modification. Always order against your specific chassis code.

Do you fit and test these exhausts before recommending them?

Yes. We install Scorpion systems on customer cars and our own project cars, so our fitment notes and sound descriptions come from hands-on experience, not just the spec sheet.
