Intake and exhaust valves open and close the ports in the cylinder head. They let the air-fuel charge in and exhaust gases out, and they seal the combustion chamber the rest of the time. Choosing the Right Part
- Engine code: Valves are listed by engine, for example RB26DETT, VR30DDTT, FA20F, FA24F, FA24D, G16E-GTS or Ford 5.0L Coyote. Some Coyote valves are listed for specific engine versions, so check that the version in the listing matches your engine.
- Intake or exhaust: Intake and exhaust valves are separate parts with different head diameters. Each listing states which one it is.
- Head diameter: STD valves match the standard head size. Oversize options such as +1mm or +0.7mm are larger and are intended for cylinder heads machined to suit.
- Overall length and tip: Some listings state an overall length or an extended tip, such as +1.5mm. Match this to your valvetrain setup.
- Material and finish: Titles show the material designation where supplied, such as 21-4N, 23-8N, Alloy or Super Alloy. They also show the finish, such as Chrome Polished. Check the product page for the manufacturer's details.
Installation & What You'll Need
Fitting valves involves removing and machining the cylinder head. This includes preparing the valve seats and setting installed heights. Installation by a professional is recommended. Ask your engine builder whether your existing springs and retainers, keepers, stem seals and guides suit the new valves, and replace gaskets as needed.
