De-Cat Pipes

De-Cat Pipes

De-cat pipes replace the factory catalytic converter section to cut back pressure and free up exhaust flow on turbocharged Japanese and European cars. We stock catless pipes for popular chassis plus specific-fit options for less common builds, chosen for mandrel-bent construction and correct flange matching rather than generic tube. These are for race and motorsport use only, so check your state's emissions rules before buying. Customers run them on track cars, drag builds and dedicated race cars, usually alongside a matched downpipe and tune.

The range covers common turbo platforms including WRX and STI, GR Yaris, Golf R and GTI, and various Nissan and Toyota turbo models. Fitment comes down to flange pattern, pipe diameter and turbo outlet, so read the listing against your exact model and build year before ordering. A de-cat is one section of a larger system. Depending on the car, it either bolts between the downpipe and the mid pipe, or forms part of a one-piece catless downpipe assembly. If you want the whole exhaust path sorted in one go, look at turbo-back exhausts. Where emissions gear needs to stay, a sports cat is the sensible alternative.

Why De-Cat Pipes

The factory cat is usually the tightest restriction between the turbo and the tailpipe. Removing it drops back pressure, which helps spool and lets the engine breathe at high RPM, and it matters more as boost and turbo size go up. Build quality decides whether you get that gain cleanly: thin tube, poor welds or a flange that doesn't sit flat means leaks, rattles and drone that ruin the rest of the system. That's why we stock brands with proper mandrel bends, thick flanges and sensible bung placement for wideband and factory sensors.

Fitment & Installation

Most de-cat pipes use the existing flanges and hanger points in place of the cat section. Match the pipe to the downpipe or mid pipe already on the car rather than assuming it will bolt to anything. Installers typically want fresh exhaust gaskets, new bolts or springs, and penetrating oil for factory hardware that has been heat cycled for years. Minor hanger adjustment is common on modified cars. Because the pipe deletes emissions equipment, it is not legal for road use in most Australian states and is sold for race and motorsport use only.

FAQ

Are de-cat pipes road legal?
No. They remove emissions equipment and are for race and motorsport use only. Check your state's regulations before fitting one.

Will a de-cat pipe fit without other exhaust changes?
It depends what's on the car. Most are designed around a specific downpipe or mid pipe flange, so confirm diameter and bolt pattern first.

Do I need a tune afterwards?
Usually, yes. Removing the cat changes flow and can upset factory oxygen sensor readings, so most turbo builds pair a de-cat with a retune.

Will it set a check engine light?
On many modern cars the rear oxygen sensor will flag a fault once the cat is gone. That's normally addressed in the tune.

Do you ship de-cat pipes Australia-wide?
Yes. Freight details for each item are shown on the product page.
