Tomei Powered Japan for the 86, BRZ & GR86 Platform
The 86/BRZ/GR86 chassis has its own dedicated Tomei Japan product family — three different titanium muffler sub-brands, two stainless manifolds, a titanium cat straight pipe, a joint pipe and chassis-specific oil pan baffle and bumper garnish — because the FA20 and FA24 boxer engines behave differently to anything else in the Tomei catalogue. Early FA20 cars are famous for a mid-range flat spot around 4,000 RPM that generic cat-backs don't solve. The EXPREME Ti TYPE-80 was engineered from the ground up to address it, and the 86/BRZ/GR86 range has since evolved across three titanium lines for the full ZN6, ZC6, ZN8 and ZD8 run.

Ti RACING Titanium Muffler — 86, BRZ & GR86
SKU 441014. The race-spec titanium single-exit muffler for the 86/BRZ/GR86 family — and importantly, this is the single-type Ti RACING that cross-fits ZN6, ZC6, ZN8 and ZD8 chassis. Straighter pipe layout than the TYPE-80, maximum exhaust efficiency, more aggressive race-car tone. For track-focused or weekend-drive 86/BRZ/GR86 builds where flow and weight matter more than daily tone, and where the Ti RACING's straight-through character is preferred over the TYPE-80's mid-range-smoothing layout.
Ti SPORTS Titanium Muffler — 2022+ GR86 & BRZ
SKU 442004. The JASMA-certified street-friendly titanium muffler for the ZN8 GR86 and ZD8 BRZ (2022+). Optimised high-flow internal structure, balanced oval sub-muffler specific to the FA24 platform, refined tone for daily driving. The go-to Tomei Japan muffler for street-registered ZN8/ZD8 owners who want titanium weight savings and Tomei quality without the race-spec volume of the Ti RACING.
EXPREME Stainless Exhaust Manifolds — 86 & BRZ (ZN6/ZC6)
Two header options for the FA20 platform — Tomei Japan produces both layouts because they deliver different power and sound characteristics.

The FA20 Mid-Range Flat Spot — And Why TYPE-80 Exists
The FA20 has a well-documented torque dip between roughly 3,500 and 4,500 RPM. Generic cat-back exhausts often make this worse by reducing back-pressure incorrectly through the affected RPM range. The TYPE-80's sub-muffler layout and pipe sizing were specifically developed to smooth power delivery across the mid-range rather than just adding volume at the top end. For a street-driven ZN6 or ZC6 this is the difference between an exhaust that sounds good and an exhaust that makes the car genuinely better to drive. The Ti RACING and Ti SPORTS mufflers are different philosophies — Ti RACING prioritises flow and race tone over mid-range smoothing; Ti SPORTS prioritises JASMA-spec street liveability.

Genuine Tomei Japan — Not Tomei USA
There are two companies selling exhausts under the "Tomei" name globally. Tomei Powered Inc. (Japan) is the original, founded in 1968 in Machida, Tokyo — they developed the EXPREME Ti TYPE-80, the Ti RACING, the Ti SPORTS and the matching manifolds and pipes, and they still build every genuine product. Tomei Powered USA was originally Tomei Japan's North American subsidiary, established in 2006, split off as a separate company in 2014, and fully independent since February 2019. Tomei Japan has publicly stated that Tomei USA products are not designed, supervised, tested, manufactured or quality-checked by them — Tomei USA part numbers typically start with "T". Every Tomei 86, BRZ and GR86 product at Chicane Australia is genuine Tomei Japan stock with numeric Machida-issued part numbers.
Road Legality & ADR Notes
Ti SPORTS mufflers are the JASMA-certified, street-friendly option and are generally the more liveable choice for road-registered ZN8/ZD8 builds. Ti RACING and TYPE-80 EXPREME Ti mufflers are race-derived and are not guaranteed to meet Australian noise regulations in every state. The EXPREME Ti Titanium Cat Straight Pipe (431005) is race use only. NSW, VIC, QLD and WA all have different dB limits and vehicle-age rules.
