Tomei Powered Japan for the WRX & STI Platform

The WRX and STI have been one of Tomei's core platforms for decades. After founding the company in 1968 as a Nissan racing constructor, the Subaru EJ turbo engine became one of Tomei Powered's major development platforms — every EXPREME Ti exhaust and stainless manifold for WRX and STI is designed, tested and manufactured in Japan at the Machida, Tokyo facility. The Tomei Japan catalogue covers the full EJ20 and EJ25 turbo run from the GDB Impreza WRX STI through to the VAB — in both JDM and USDM body-style variants — plus the Forester XT and Levorg.

EXPREME Ti Titanium Mufflers — The WRX/STI Range

Tomei Japan's core titanium muffler line for the EJ platform. Full titanium construction with 80mm piping, single-exit layout, oversized silencer shell, clamp-band connections replacing traditional flanges for reduced weight. The signature EXPREME Ti burnt-blue gradient finish with embossed Tomei logo. Available for every major WRX/STI generation — with JDM and USDM variants where the body style differs.

GDB Impreza WRX STI (2001–2007)

EXPREME Stainless Exhaust Manifolds

Tomei Japan's stainless exhaust manifold range for the EJ platform — designed for thermal cycling and big-power turbo builds. Three distinct layouts for different tuning goals.

• EXPREME Manifold Equal-Length (SKU 193105) — for Impreza WRX / STI / Forester GC8 / GDB / GRB / GVB. Smoother top-end power delivery, removes the signature Subaru "burble".
• EXPREME Manifold Unequal-Length (SKU 193082) — for GC8 / GDB / GRB / GVB. Preserves the classic Subaru exhaust note character.
• EXPREME Manifold Twin Scroll (SKU 414001) — for VAB GDB / GRB / GVB / VAB STI running twin-scroll turbochargers. Optimised runner geometry for twin-scroll flow characteristics.

Subaru EJ Timing Belt Guide

SKU 191263. Not an exhaust part, but a Tomei Japan reliability upgrade for the EJ20/EJ25 platform. The timing belt guide helps maintain correct belt tracking on high-RPM and tuned EJ engines, reducing the risk of belt displacement and catastrophic valve contact. A cheap insurance policy for any built Subaru engine. Fits WRX, STI, Forester XT and Liberty GT.

JDM vs USDM — Why the Split Matters

Tomei Japan makes separate muffler SKUs for JDM and USDM GDB, GRF and GVF chassis because the body styles differ in the rear bumper valance cutout and the muffler mounting hanger geometry. A JDM muffler will not bolt cleanly into a USDM body, and vice versa. Australian-delivered WRX/STIs are generally JDM-spec through the GDB era, but grey-import USDM examples and later-model USDM-converted bodies exist in the local market — which is why the SKU breakdown matters. Genuine Tomei Japan — Not Tomei USA

There are two companies selling exhausts under the "Tomei" name globally. Tomei Powered Inc. (Japan) is the original, founded in 1968 in Machida, Tokyo — they developed the EXPREME Ti range for the EJ platform and still build every genuine product. Tomei Powered USA was originally Tomei Japan's North American subsidiary, established in 2006, split off as a separate company in 2014, and fully independent since February 2019. Tomei Japan has publicly stated that Tomei USA products are not designed, supervised, tested, manufactured or quality-checked by them — Tomei USA part numbers typically start with "T". Every Tomei WRX, STI, Forester and Levorg product at Chicane Australia is genuine Tomei Japan stock with numeric Machida-issued part numbers.

Road Legality & ADR Notes

EXPREME Ti race-spec mufflers are developed for track use and are not guaranteed to meet Australian noise regulations in every state. NSW, VIC, QLD and WA all have different dB limits and vehicle-age rules.
