Touring Edition vs Track Edition

The AWE Touring Edition retains the rear mufflers and pairs them with the 180 Technology® midpipe, giving a deeper, sportier note without highway drone. It suits an 8Y that commutes, covers long highway distances, or simply needs to stay civil on every drive.

The AWE Track Edition deletes the rear mufflers for a louder, rawer note with more presence at idle and more bark on overrun. The 180 Technology® midpipe still works to control drone, but the Track Edition is clearly the louder of the two — the choice for a weekend or track-focused 8Y.

Chassis and fitment identifiers

• Chassis code: 8Y (2021+), Sportback hatch and Sedan body styles. Your chassis details are printed on the build plate inside the driver's door jamb.
• Engine: EA888 evo 2.0T, 228kW in the S3 8Y.
• Drivetrain: quattro all-wheel drive with the 7-speed DSG (DQ381). AWE engineers the 8Y catback around this layout.
• 8Y is not 8V: AWE produces separate fitments for the 8Y (2021+) and the previous 8V (2014–2020), which uses the MQB platform and DQ250 gearbox. An 8V system will not fit an 8Y.
• SwitchPath availability: AWE's 8Y range is Touring Edition and Track Edition only — there is currently no SwitchPath valved option and no Conversion Kit between the two systems for this chassis.
• Tip finish: 102mm double-walled tips in Diamond Black (darker, hides road grime well on lighter colours) or Chrome Silver (polished, closer to the factory tip look). Both resist heat bluing.

Installation by a qualified professional workshop is recommended. These are catback systems — they fit from the catalytic converter rearward — and require a hoist, exhaust hangers and clamps handled correctly, and careful alignment of the tips in the rear valance.

• No tune required for the catback alone. Both the Touring and Track Edition systems for the 8Y are compatible with the factory ECU.
• Factory valved system. The 8Y uses a factory valved exhaust. AWE Electronic Valve Simulators plug into the factory harness to prevent soft codes if factory valved components are removed or modified.
• Legality. Both systems retain the factory catalytic converter. If you are considering any downpipe or catalyst changes, note that catless components are race/motorsport use only in Australia, and an ECU remap is required after fitting an aftermarket downpipe.
• Noise. The Track Edition is noticeably louder than factory — check your state's noise regulations if compliance is a concern.

Will an Audi S3 8V exhaust fit my 8Y?

No. AWE produces separate fitments for the 8Y (2021+) and 8V (2014–2020). The chassis architecture, gearbox and exhaust mounting differ, so order specific to your chassis code.

Is a tune required for an AWE catback on the 8Y?

No. Both Touring and Track Edition systems are catback designs fitted from the catalytic converter rearward and are compatible with the factory ECU.

Does AWE offer a SwitchPath valved exhaust for the S3 8Y?

Not currently. The AWE 8Y range consists of the Touring Edition and Track Edition only, with no Conversion Kits between them.

What is the difference between Diamond Black and Chrome Silver tips?

Both are double-walled 102mm tips. Diamond Black is the darker, more aggressive finish and hides road grime well on lighter colours, while Chrome Silver is a traditional polished look.
