Why the GR Supra Gets Special Treatment in AWE's Catalogue
The Toyota GR Supra (A90 / A91) sits in a uniquely interesting position in the global performance car market. It's a Japanese-badged sports car built on the BMW Z4 G29 architecture and powered by BMW's superb 3.0L turbo B58 inline-six. That dual-heritage status means it draws buyers from both the JDM enthusiast world and the European performance world — and AWE has responded by developing one of the deepest catalogues of any single platform they support.
Where most cars in AWE's range get a Touring Edition and a Track Edition, the GR Supra gets three distinct exhaust configurations — Resonated Touring, Non-Resonated Touring, and Track Edition — plus full Conversion Kits between all three. On top of that, the GR Supra is one of the very few platforms with AWE's S-FLO Carbon Intake system available, and the only platform with the AWE Foiler Wind Diffuser. If you want a complete AWE build on a Toyota, the GR Supra is the platform to do it on.
Choosing Between Resonated Touring, Non-Resonated Touring, and Track Edition
AWE's three-tier GR Supra catbacks each target a specific use case. The differences are about resonator content, not just muffler presence:
Resonated Touring Edition
Mufflers retained, midpipe resonator retained. This is AWE's quietest GR Supra catback — closest to factory volume but with the deeper, more characterful B58 tone unlocked. Highway drone is eliminated by AWE's 180 Technology midpipe, the cabin stays comfortable on long drives, and the exhaust sounds the way the B58 should sound. Right pick if you commute in your Supra, do regular long-distance trips, or want a quality upgrade that won't draw constant attention.
Non-Resonated Touring Edition
Mufflers retained, midpipe resonator removed. Louder than Resonated Touring, quieter than Track. The non-res midpipe lets more of the B58's natural induction and exhaust character through — more raspy on overrun, a touch more present at idle — while the rear mufflers keep the overall volume civilised enough for daily use. This is the middle option for buyers who find Resonated too quiet and Track too loud.
Resonated Track Edition
Mufflers deleted, midpipe resonator retained. The full muffler-delete experience for the GR Supra — louder, rawer, more aggressive — but the resonated midpipe still provides drone control via 180 Technology. Track Edition systems run the AWE 5" tips engineered specifically for the GR Supra's rear bumper cutouts. Right pick if your Supra is a weekend toy, a track-day weapon, or you simply want maximum sound character.

The GR Supra's Three-Way Conversion Kit System
One of AWE's best-kept secrets is the Conversion Kit — a standalone bolt-on section that lets you change between exhaust configurations without buying a complete new system. The GR Supra is the most flexible platform in AWE's catalogue for this:
Touring-to-Track Conversion Kit: If you started with either Touring configuration and decide later that you want maximum sound, this kit converts your existing system to a Track Edition layout.
Track-to-Resonated-Touring Conversion Kit (Rear Sections Only): The reverse — if you started with Track Edition and want to quieten down to Resonated Touring volume. This is the rear-section-only kit (cheaper than the full kit) since the resonated midpipe is shared with Track.
Track-to-Non-Resonated-Touring Conversion Kit: Track Edition down to Non-Resonated Touring — the full kit with both mid and rear sections, since the non-resonated midpipe replaces the Track resonated midpipe.
Most platforms get one Conversion Kit if they're lucky. The GR Supra gets three, in both directions, between three configurations. That kind of flexibility is rare enough that it's worth choosing your starting point carefully — if you're not sure between Touring tiers, Track Edition is often the smart buy because either Conversion Kit can step you down later. Read our Conversion Kits guide for full fitment details.
A90 vs A91 — What's Different
The GR Supra runs across two model designations in Australia:
A90 (2020–2022): Original 3.0L turbo B58 producing approximately 250kW. Eight-speed automatic transmission only.
A91 (2023+): Updated B58 with revised tuning producing approximately 285kW. Six-speed manual transmission introduced as an option (A91-MT) alongside the 8-speed automatic.
AWE's exhaust fitment covers both A90 and A91 — the chassis architecture, exhaust mounting, and rear bumper cutouts are unchanged across the model years. The S-FLO Carbon Intake also shares fitment across both. The 6-speed manual A91 has slightly different transmission tunnel routing, but does not affect exhaust fitment. If you have an A91 manual, contact us before ordering to confirm fitment with your specific build.
AWE S-FLO Carbon Intake — The B58 Intake Upgrade
The B58 turbo six responds exceptionally well to intake improvements. AWE offers two S-FLO levels for the GR Supra:
S-FLO Carbon Intake Lid: The simpler upgrade — replaces the factory plastic airbox lid with an AWE carbon fibre lid that improves under-bonnet aesthetic and slightly increases flow. Retains the OEM lower airbox and filter mounting. The right pick for owners who want the AWE carbon look without committing to a full system.
S-FLO Carbon Intake (full system): The complete intake package — full carbon fibre airbox, lid, intake tube, and filter assembly. Significantly outflows the OEM intake, generates more induction sound under boost, and is a CFD-developed system rather than a generic open-element pod. This is the proper intake upgrade for an AWE-built Supra.
Both S-FLO products are available standalone or as part of a complete AWE GR Supra build. We also stock alternatives from AFE (Track Series carbon fibre), AFE (Takeda Stage-2), and AMS Performance — see the full intake collection for comparison.
AWE Foiler Wind Diffuser
The AWE Foiler Wind Diffuser is a unique product specific to the GR Supra. It's a deck-mounted aero piece that redirects airflow over the rear of the car when running an aftermarket wing — improving the cleanliness of the airflow reaching the wing element and reducing the amount of turbulent air spilling over the rear deck.
This is a niche product for owners running serious aero — track-day GR Supras with high-mount wings, time-attack builds, or aesthetic builds where the Foiler complements the rear deck visual. Not necessary for street cars, but a clean piece of engineering for track-focused builds.
Tuning & Drivetrain Considerations
No tune required for the catback alone. All three GR Supra AWE catback configurations are catback systems — they fit from the catalytic converter rearward and are fully compatible with the factory ECU. No tune is required.
For serious B58 power, the upgrade path is downpipes and tune. The GR Supra's biggest restrictions are the factory downpipe and the conservative factory tune. A downpipe combined with a quality tune typically takes an A90 from ~250kW to 350kW+ at the wheels with reliable boost control. The exhaust is part of the picture, not the whole story. We don't currently stock GR Supra downpipes — contact us for sourcing.
Drone with Track Edition. Even with 180 Technology, the Track Edition is louder than either Touring configuration. If your Supra is a daily commuter on long highway runs, Resonated Touring is usually the smarter pick — or buy Track and add a Track-to-Resonated-Touring Conversion Kit later if needed.
BMW B58 platform sharing. The GR Supra's B58 is shared with the BMW Z4 M40i G29 (and the wider BMW B58 family). Several supporting mods have shared fitment between Supra and Z4 — AFE intakes are a good example — though AWE's GR Supra catbacks are Toyota-specific and won't fit a Z4 due to chassis differences.
Supporting Modifications for the GR Supra
The GR Supra is well-supported at Chicane across the categories that matter most on a turbo six-cylinder GT:
Intake alternatives: The AFE Track Series Carbon Fiber Intake publishes +23 hp / +22 lb-ft dyno gains with 42% more flow than factory. The AFE Takeda Stage-2 is the more accessible alternative. AMS Performance carbon intakes are also available — browse the full intake collection.
JDM titanium alternative: If you want a titanium exhaust rather than stainless, the RSE Full Titanium Muffler TYPE-D is a Japanese-made bolt-on for the A90 RZ — full titanium construction, dual 152mm silencers, blue-burnished 115mm tips, and an included sound reducer insert. 11kg complete. A different aesthetic and material story to AWE's stainless catbacks.
Suspension: The GR Supra's adaptive damper setup is sensitive to drop link length — Suspension Secrets adjustable front and rear drop links are commonly fitted alongside coilover or sway bar upgrades to maintain proper geometry.

Construction, Warranty & Authenticity
Every AWE catback for the GR Supra is built from CNC mandrel-bent T304L stainless steel with TIG-welded joints and double-walled 5" tips that won't blue from heat. AWE backs every system with their lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects, and Australian customers receive full warranty support through Chicane.
The S-FLO Carbon Intake range uses CFD-developed tube geometry and prepreg carbon fibre construction — not cosmetic carbon overlay. AWE's intake products carry the same lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.
All AWE product sold at Chicane Australia is supplied through AWE's authorised distribution channel — every system carries verifiable AWE serial identification and is covered by the factory warranty. Buying from an authorised stockist is the only way to guarantee both genuine product and warranty coverage in Australia.
Buying Notes for the GR Supra in Australia
A90 vs A91 fitment. AWE's catbacks fit both A90 (2020–2022) and A91 (2023+) GR Supras, including the 6-speed manual A91-MT. If you have a manual A91, contact us before ordering to confirm specific fitment.
Tip choice. All GR Supra Track Edition systems run AWE's 5" tips designed specifically for the rear bumper cutouts. No alternative tip options on this platform — the 5" diameter is matched to the OEM bumper aperture.
Catback is street-legal. All three configurations (Resonated Touring, Non-Resonated Touring, Track Edition) are catback systems that retain the factory catalytic converter and are street-legal in all Australian states. Track Edition is noticeably louder than factory — check your state's noise regulations if you're concerned.
Lead times. AWE GR Supra systems typically ship in 5–7 days from order. Contact us if you need it faster — we'll see what we can do.
