Chassis identification

These systems are for the FL5 Civic Type R (2023+) with the 2.0-litre K20C1 turbocharged engine and six-speed manual gearbox. The earlier FK8 Civic Type R (2017–2022) shares the same fundamental engine architecture, but the FL5's revised exhaust mounting, tip placement and rear bumper cutouts mean AWE produces separate catback fitments. An FK8 catback will not fit an FL5, and vice versa — confirm your chassis code and model year before ordering.

Touring Edition

Retains the rear mufflers and uses AWE's 180 Technology midpipe to deliver a deeper, sportier note without highway drone. The choice for cars used for commuting and regular long-distance driving.

Track Edition

Deletes the rear mufflers for a louder, rawer note with more presence at idle and on overrun. The 180 Technology midpipe still works to control drone, but the Track Edition is the louder of the two systems.

Conversion kits

AWE offers both a Track-to-Touring Conversion Kit and a Touring-to-Track Conversion Kit for the FL5, so owners can change the rear section and move between configurations later without buying a complete new system.

Tip finish

Both systems are offered with 102mm Diamond Black tips (a more aggressive look that hides road grime well) or Chrome Silver tips (a traditional polished finish closer to the factory satin tips). Both are double-walled and will not blue from heat.

Valve simulators

The FL5 does not use a factory valved exhaust system, so AWE Electronic Valve Simulators are not typically required for this platform.

AWE FL5 systems are catback designs that fit from the catalytic converter rearward and bolt to the factory mounting points using the standard hangers and flange hardware. Installation by a professional workshop is recommended — a hoist, correct torque procedure and careful tip alignment in the rear bumper cutouts make a significant difference to the finished result.

You'll typically want: a vehicle hoist or safety stands, basic metric hand tools, penetrating lubricant for factory fasteners, and replacement gaskets where required. Allow the exhaust to cool completely before any work begins.

No tune is required for the catback on its own — both Touring and Track Edition systems retain the factory catalytic converter and are compatible with the standard ECU. If the catback is combined with an aftermarket downpipe, professional tuning is required, as running an aftermarket downpipe on the factory calibration can trigger fault codes and unsafe fuelling on the K20C1.

Will an AWE FK8 catback fit my FL5?

No. AWE produces separate catback fitments for the FL5 (2023+) and FK8 (2017–2022) because of differences in exhaust mounting, tip placement and rear bumper cutouts. Order the system listed for your chassis.

Do I need a tune for an AWE catback?

No. Both Touring and Track Edition systems are catback designs that retain the factory catalytic converter and work with the standard ECU. A tune is required if you also fit an aftermarket downpipe.

Which system has less drone?

The Touring Edition. It keeps the rear mufflers and uses AWE's 180 Technology drone-cancelling midpipe. The Track Edition also uses 180 Technology but deletes the rear mufflers, so it is the louder of the two.

Can I change from Track to Touring later?

Yes. AWE offers a Track-to-Touring Conversion Kit for the FL5, as well as a Touring-to-Track Conversion Kit, so you can change the rear section rather than replacing the whole system.
