A fuel surge tank keeps a small, always-full supply of fuel at the main pump, so the engine doesn't go lean when fuel sloshes away from the pickup under hard cornering, braking or at low fuel levels. Radium Engineering makes single pump, multi-pump, regulated and fuel cell surge tanks, plus car-specific install kits and service parts.
Shop by Product Type
FST single pump surge tank and the FSTR RA with a built-in fuel pressure regulator.
MPFST multi-pump surge tank and the regulated MPFST-R for high-power builds that need more than one pump.
FCST-X fuel cell surge tank: the surge chamber is built into the fuel cell, with lift pump mounts, extension kits and spare pump modules.
Surge tank install kits for cars such as the Honda S2000, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Ford Focus ST/RS and Lotus Elise/Exige.
Brackets and service parts: mounting brackets, venturi jet pump kit and O-ring service kits.
Work out how many pumps you need first. One high-flow pump suits most street and track builds; big-power or E85 builds often need the MPFST or MPFST-R.
Decide where regulation happens. The FSTR RA and MPFST-R have a regulator built in; the others work with a separate fuel pressure regulator.
If there's an install kit for your car, start there, as it includes the brackets and plumbing for that chassis. Pumps are not always included, so read each listing.
Installation & What You'll Need
A surge tank needs a lift pump from the main tank, a feed and return to the surge tank, a high-pressure pump feeding the engine, and a vent or return back to the main tank. That means AN hose and fittings, pump wiring and a secure mount. Fuel system work should be done by a professional, with the system depressurised and away from ignition sources.
FAQ
Why fit a fuel surge tank?
Under hard cornering, braking or at low fuel levels, fuel moves away from the pickup in the main tank. A surge tank stays full and keeps feeding the engine pump, so fuel pressure doesn't drop.
Are pumps included?
It depends on the listing. Some tanks come with pumps and some are sold without, so check the title and description.
Do I need a separate fuel pressure regulator?
The FSTR RA and MPFST-R have one built in. The FST, MPFST and FCST-X are usually run with a separate regulator.
