BMW Z4 (E89) 2009–2016 Performance Parts & Upgrades
The BMW Z4 (E89) was sold new in Australia from 2009 to 2016 as a two-seat, rear-drive roadster with a folding hardtop. Engines varied by model: the sDrive20i and sDrive28i have the N20 2.0L turbo four, the sDrive23i and sDrive30i a naturally aspirated six, and the sDrive35i and 35is the N54 twin-turbo six. Popular upgrades for the Z4 E89
- Suspension: HARDRACE front lower and upper arms, bushings, rear camber kits and trailing arm bushings, AST lowering springs and an Öhlins EDC cancellation kit.
- Brakes: Dinan front brake sets with black or red calipers and drilled or slotted rotors.
- Turbo and valves: Turbosmart Kompact blow-off valves and a vIWG wastegate actuator, and GFB diverter valves.

Choosing the Right Part
- Engine: turbo, intake and valve parts are engine-specific. The N54 parts suit the sDrive35i and 35is, and the N20 parts suit the sDrive20i and sDrive28i. Check the engine in the title.
- Hardened rubber or pillow ball: HARDRACE makes many arms and bushings in both. Pillow ball gives sharper steering, while hardened rubber is quieter for daily driving.
- Adaptive dampers: cars with adaptive dampers need the Öhlins cancellation kit when the dampers are replaced.
Installation
Have suspension, brake and turbo parts fitted by a qualified workshop. Intercooler and intake upgrades on the turbo engines may need a tune. Get a wheel alignment after suspension work, and bleed and road-test the brakes after brake work.
