Turbosmart | World-Leading Australian Boost Control Technology
Turbosmart BOVs & Wastegate Actuators
We fit and recommend Turbosmart across most of the turbo platforms that come through our workshop, from GR Yaris and Golf R daily drivers to WRX and Evo track builds. Turbosmart was founded in Australia and has a long history in boost control, and their gear is a straightforward upgrade path whether you're chasing reliability or just tired of a leaking factory valve. This range covers blow-off valves, external wastegates, oil pressure regulators and fuel pressure regulators.
GenV external wastegates (Ultra-Gate and Power-Gate series)
OPR T40 oil pressure regulators
Fuel pressure regulators (FPR series)
Why Turbosmart
Turbosmart has been building boost control gear for a long time and it shows in how well the parts suit local turbo setups. The GenV wastegates are a solid update on the older TS design, with better thermal handling and a rotatable actuator housing that makes routing reference lines in tight engine bays much easier. On a common 45mm Ultra-Gate setup, the standard spring lets you dial in a wide range of boost targets before you need to swap to a heavier one, worth knowing if you're building in stages rather than buying a spring kit upfront. On newer electronically controlled cars like the Civic Type R and Golf R, the Kompact EM series plugs straight into the factory harness. The ECU still thinks it's running the stock valve, but you get rid of the boost leaks that plague the plastic OEM units. We recommend the OPR T40 on ball-bearing turbo cars like the Focus RS and Evo, where oil pressure at cold start can be higher than the turbo bearings want to see. It holds oil supply at a steady 40psi and helps stop the smoking turbo problem that comes from seal wear over time.
Fitment & Installation
Kompact EM valves are designed as a plug-and-play swap for the specific factory valve they replace, so check you've got the right part number for your model and year before ordering. On the FK8 Civic Type R, the factory loom connector is a tight fit behind the intake piping, so give yourself room to work before forcing the plug home. GenV external wastegates need to be matched to your turbo's boost target and exhaust housing, so have your setup details handy if you're unsure which spring or gate size suits your build. The OPR T40 taps into your existing oil feed line and doesn't need any ECU tuning to run. Fuel pressure regulators should be matched to your injector and fuel pump combination, not just bolted on and forgotten. If you're not sure which part suits your engine, get in touch before you order.
The Kompact EM series combines the response of an electronic valve with the durability of a mechanical one. It plugs directly into your factory harness on cars like the GR Yaris and Golf R, so the ECU still thinks it's controlling the stock valve, but you get rid of boost leaks and get a faster response.
Why do I need an OPR T40 oil pressure regulator?
Modern engines often run oil pressure higher than a ball-bearing turbo is designed to handle, especially on cold starts. The OPR T40 holds the oil feed at a steady 40psi without restricting flow, which helps prevent smoking turbo issues and protects the turbo's internal seals.
Will a Turbosmart BOV or wastegate suit my car?
Most of our range covers common turbo platforms like GR Yaris, Golf R, Civic Type R, WRX, Evo and Focus RS/ST, but part numbers vary by model and year. Check the specific product listing for confirmed fitment, or contact us if you're not sure.
Do I need a tune after fitting a Kompact EM valve or wastegate?
A Kompact EM valve is designed to work with the factory ECU without a retune. External wastegates on aftermarket turbo setups usually do need a tune to get the boost curve right, so factor that into your build.
