Porsche 911 Targa (996) 2001–2004 Performance Parts & Upgrades
The Porsche 911 Targa (996) was sold new in Australia from late 2001 to 2004. Unlike earlier Targas it has a large glass roof that slides back under the rear window, with the 3.6L 996.2 flat-six driving the rear wheels. Underneath it shares its suspension with the rear-drive Carrera, so this page lists AST and Öhlins suspension, HARDRACE and SPL arms and bushings, Frenkit caliper rebuild kits and a Wavetrac differential that suit it.

Popular upgrades for the Targa 996
- Springs and coilovers: AST lowering springs and coilovers and Öhlins Road & Track coilovers for the rear-drive 996.
- Arms: HARDRACE caster, lower and toe arms and camber kits, plus SPL trailing arms and bumpsteer toe arms.
- Bushings and links: SPL solid aluminium subframe bushings and dogbone links, and adjustable end links from SPL, HARDRACE and Torque Solution.
- Brakes: Frenkit seal and piston rebuild kits for the factory Brembo calipers.

Choosing the Right Part
- Glass roof weight: the Targa roof adds weight up high. Ask us before choosing spring rates, as coupe rates may not suit.
- Coupe parts: some AST parts are titled for the coupe. Contact us to confirm fit on the Targa before you order.
- Gearbox: the Wavetrac diff is for the G96 6-speed manual only, not Tiptronic.
Installation
Have a qualified workshop fit suspension, brake and drivetrain parts. Get a wheel alignment after any suspension change, and bleed and road-test the brakes after brake work. Always follow the maker's instructions and torque settings.
