The Porsche 911 Carrera (996) was sold new in Australia from 1998 to 2005. It was the first water-cooled 911, with a flat-six in the tail driving the rear wheels: 3.4L in the 996.1 and 3.6L in the 996.2 from late 2001. Popular upgrades for the Carrera 996
- Suspension: AST coilovers and lowering springs, Öhlins Road & Track coilovers, and HARDRACE and SPL caster arms, toe arms, camber kits, dogbone links and solid subframe bushings.
- Alignment: SPL rear camber and toe eccentric lockout kits and HARDRACE tie rod ends, to hold settings on a lowered car.
- Sway bar links: SPL, HARDRACE and Torque Solution adjustable front and rear end links.
- Brakes: Brembo GT, GT-S and Pista front big brake kits, the AP Racing CP9660 kit, and Frenkit seal and piston rebuild kits for the factory Brembo calipers.

Choosing the Right Part
- Rear-drive or Carrera 4: coilovers are made in separate versions. AST and Öhlins list the Carrera 2 (rear-drive) kit for this page, so don't pick a Carrera 4 kit.
- Manual or Tiptronic: the Wavetrac diff suits the G96 6-speed manual gearbox only.
- Caliper size: Frenkit kits are listed by piston size (28/30mm or 36/40mm). Check the size cast on your calipers before ordering.
Installation
Have a qualified workshop fit suspension, brake and drivetrain parts. Get a wheel alignment after any suspension change, and bleed and road-test the brakes after brake work. Always follow the maker's instructions and torque settings.
