A Wavetrac is a gear-type (helical) differential with no clutch packs, so there's no wear-in period and no lock-unlock harshness. It replaces the factory open front differential, biasing torque towards the wheel with grip to reduce inside-wheel spin on corner exit. Wavetrac's patented design is intended to keep biasing torque even when one wheel is unloaded. The benefit increases with power and tyre grip, so tuned cars on wider tyres see the most difference.

Installation by a professional driveline specialist is recommended. On 02Q manual gearboxes, fit new bearings, ARP differential bolts and the correct shims rather than reusing factory hardware. Use a suitable gear oil; Red Line ShockProof voids the Wavetrac warranty.

Which differential does my Golf R need? Manual Mk5 R32, Mk6 and Mk7 use the 02Q. Mk6 and Mk7 DSG use the DQ250 (02E). Mk7.5 and Mk8 DSG use the DQ381 (0GC). Check your transmission code to confirm.

Is there any power loss over the factory differential? No meaningful difference. It's a mechanical, gear-driven differential with no pump or clutch load.

Do I need an install kit as well? For 02Q manual gearboxes, new bearings, ARP bolts and correct shims are recommended during the swap.
