The Z Type is a natural match for the Type R. For FK8 and FL5 owners who attend regular track days, the Z Type provides the confidence to brake later without worrying about fade. Circuit & Competition

The Civic Type R is one of Australia's most competitive FWD time attack platforms. For dedicated track use, the RA Type, RE Type, and Specom-B compounds deliver the high-temperature stability that sustained circuit driving demands. Front-wheel-drive cars are particularly hard on front brakes — the combination of braking load and steering input generates extreme thermal stress. Both the FK8 and FL5 Civic Type R come with Brembo 4-piston front calipers as standard, but there are important differences:

FK8 Civic Type R (2017–2021): Brembo 4-piston front calipers with 350mm ventilated discs. Single-piston rear calipers with 305mm solid discs. DIXCEL offers the full compound range for both front and rear fitments.

FL5 Civic Type R (2022+): Updated Brembo 4-piston front calipers with 350mm ventilated discs. The FL5 uses a different front pad shape to the FK8 — they are not interchangeable. DIXCEL covers the FL5 with dedicated front and rear fitments across all compound tiers.

Important: Do not mix FK8 and FL5 front pads — they are different part numbers despite both using Brembo 4-piston calipers. Confirm your chassis code when ordering. Contact us if you're unsure.

The Type R's front brakes absorb the majority of braking energy on a front-wheel-drive car, so rotor quality matters more here than on AWD or RWD platforms. DIXCEL's SD (6-slot) and FS (slotted) rotors use high-carbon metallurgy with 20% better thermal crack resistance than standard discs — a genuine advantage for Type R owners who track their cars. The 6-slot pattern helps maintain consistent pad contact and degassing under heavy use.
