The Cometic MLX head gasket is a multi-layer stainless steel replacement for the factory head gasket on the Ford 2.3L EcoBoost in the 2016-2018 Focus RS (LZ) and the 2020-2023 Mustang High Performance (FN). It has an 89mm round bore and comes in three compressed thicknesses, so you can match the stock deck height or set the compression ratio on a built engine.

Cometic's MLX (Multi-Layer Xtreme) design adds a fold-over stopper layer around each bore. The stopper acts as a torque-limiting surface that stops the combustion seal from yielding, which suits high-boost engines with high cylinder pressure. Embossed outer layers with a Viton coating seal the coolant and oil passages, and the gasket goes in dry with no sealant or re-torque.

Options

Compressed thickness: 1.02mm (.040"), 1.37mm (.054") or 1.52mm (.060"). Thicker gaskets lower compression; match the thickness to your engine builder's spec.

Note: Cometic lists this gasket for the 2016-2018 Focus RS and the 2020-2023 Mustang 2.3L only, so it does not suit the earlier Mustang EcoBoost (FM, or FN before the 2020 High Performance). The 89mm gasket bore suits the factory 87.5mm bore and oversize bores up to 88mm, such as the Manley Platinum Series pistons. One gasket per engine. Installation by a professional is recommended.
