Start with your chassis code. The FL5 (2023+) and FK8 (2017–2021) both use the K20C1 engine and have related chassis designs, but their suspension geometry and damper specifications are different. Each kit is built for one platform, so make sure you choose the listing for your car.

AST Suspension coilovers

• AST 5100 Competition (Inverted): Inverted strut design with rebound damping adjustment and camber-adjustable front top mounts.
• AST 5200 Series (2-Way): Independent rebound and compression adjustment with remote reservoirs.
• AST 5300 Series (3-Way): Separate adjusters for rebound, low-speed compression and high-speed compression.

MOTON Suspension coilovers

• MOTON 1-Way Clubsport: Non-inverted monotube with 12-position rebound adjustment and camber-adjustable front top mounts.
• MOTON 2-Way Clubsport: Inverted monotube with independent rebound and compression adjustment, remote reservoirs and 15-step damping adjustment.
• MOTON 3-Way Motorsport: Inverted monotube with an elevated top guide and helper piston for low-friction operation. Rebound, low-speed compression and high-speed compression adjust independently.

Installation by a professional is recommended. Coilovers replace the factory dampers completely. The camber-adjustable front top mounts are the main way to change front camber on the Civic Type R.

Any change in ride height alters camber, toe and caster. Have a full four-wheel alignment done after installation. The alignment should account for the new ride height and your intended use, and you should check clearance for your wheel and tyre combination before the settings are finalised.

Is the FK8 kit the same as the FL5 kit?

No. The two generations share the K20C1 engine and have related chassis designs, but their suspension geometry and damper specifications differ. AST and MOTON make a separate kit for each platform, so confirm your chassis code before ordering.

Do coilovers replace the factory adaptive dampers?

Yes. Full coilovers replace the factory dampers entirely, which takes the factory adaptive damping system out of use.

Are AST and MOTON coilovers rebuildable?

Yes. Every damper can be serviced. Seals can be replaced, oil refreshed and the internal valving changed to suit a new spring rate or a different use.

Which coilovers include camber-adjustable front top mounts?

The AST 5100 Competition, 5200 and 5300, and the MOTON 1-Way, 2-Way and 3-Way kits for the Civic Type R all include camber-adjustable front top mounts.
