Lowering Springs
Lowering Springs
Lowering springs are the simplest way to drop ride height and tighten body control without moving to a full coilover setup. Chicane Australia stocks lowering springs from AST Suspension, Eibach, H&R and RS-R for a wide range of Japanese, European, Korean and other platforms, from daily-driven hatches to performance coupes. A spread of drop heights and spring rates lets you match a set to your wheel fitment and how the car is driven.
Shop by Vehicle
Lowering springs are listed for makes including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Toyota, Lexus, Subaru, Nissan, Infiniti, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Suzuki, Ford and Tesla. Examples include the BMW M2 (G87), M3 (G80) and 4 Series (F32 and G22), Honda Civic Type R (FL5), Toyota GR Supra (A90), Nissan 350Z (Z33) and 370Z (Z34), Volkswagen Golf GTI (Mk7), Hyundai i30 Sedan N (CN7), and Subaru Forester (SJ) and Outback (BS and BT). Applications vary by model year and trim, and some AWD or wagon variants use different part numbers to the base car.

Choosing the Right Part
Start with your chassis code, not just the model name. The Lexus GS350 is listed separately for GRL10 and GRL12, and the Subaru Outback 2.5i (BS) has separate listings for 2015–2017 and 2018–2020. The Forester (SJ) is split into XT and non-turbo versions, and the Tesla Model 3 has separate AWD and RWD sets. Some listings cover only one axle, such as the AST front lowering springs for the BMW 4 Series (F32).
Each brand offers different spring options:
- AST Suspension: fixed-drop lowering springs, plus the Adjustable Lowering Spring (ALS) for the BMW M2 (G87), M3 (G80/G81), M4 (G82/G83), X3 M (F97) and X4 M (F98).
- Eibach: Pro-Kit lowering springs, including the BMW M2 (G87) and Honda Civic Type R (FL5).
- H&R: Sport Springs, such as the Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W205) 30mm drop set and the Honda Civic Type R (FL5).
- RS-R: Down, Half Down and Super Down drop levels depending on the application, plus Ti2000 Down springs for models including the Volkswagen Golf GTI (Mk7) and Tesla Model 3.
Progressive-rate springs tend to keep a softer initial stroke and suit daily cars. Linear rates give more predictable response for track use. A bigger drop is not always better: past a certain point you lose bump travel, reach the bump stops early and the car can handle worse. Moderate drops usually ride and grip better on Australian roads.
Installation & What You'll Need
Lowering springs fit onto factory or aftermarket struts and shocks, so check damper condition before installation. Original dampers aren't always valved for a shorter, stiffer spring, which is why tired shocks are often replaced at the same time. Cars with electronically adjustable dampers may need a suspension fault reset or a specific spring application, so confirm before ordering.
A wheel alignment is essential afterwards, because ride height changes camber and toe. Some platforms need adjustable camber arms, toe arms or camber plates to bring geometry back into spec, and shorter sway bar end links can help on larger drops. Australian-delivered variants can differ in strut length and perch design between trim levels, so confirm your exact model and build year. Spring compressors and a torque wrench are the usual minimum tools for the job.
Note: Installation by a professional is recommended.
FAQ
Will lowering springs work with my factory shocks?
Usually, yes. Worn or high-kilometre dampers won't control a shorter, stiffer spring well and can wear out faster, so check their condition and age against the listed spring rate.
Do I need a wheel alignment afterwards?
Yes. Changing ride height alters camber and toe on every platform, so book a wheel alignment straight after installation.
How much lower will my car sit?
Drop varies by brand, model and current ride height. Each product page lists the manufacturer's front and rear figures, and cars with sagging original springs often drop less than advertised.
Springs or coilovers?
Springs suit a modest, fixed drop at lower cost. Choose coilovers if you want adjustable ride height, matched damping or corner weighting for track work.
