Brake Rotors

Performance brake rotors for JDM and Euro cars — DIXCEL Japan one-piece, Paragon Performance two-piece floating and Alcon UK motorsport discs. Three brands, three positions in the brake system. Chicane is the Australian distributor for DIXCEL and stockist for Paragon and Alcon, shipping Australia-wide from the Central Coast, NSW.

Replace rotors with pads, not before. The most common rotor mistake we see is buyers fitting new pads to glazed rotors and wondering why the pedal feels wrong. Old rotors absorb pad material from the previous compound — bolt a new pad set onto them and they'll never bed properly. You'll get pulsation, contaminated friction surfaces and shortened pad life. The right approach is to swap both at the same time, matched to how you drive.

The Three Rotor Brands at Chicane

Each brand has a specific role in the brake system. Mix and match by category — DIXCEL pads with Paragon rotors is a normal pairing, as is DIXCEL rotors with an Alcon caliper kit.

DIXCEL (Japan) — One-Piece Performance Rotors

Tokyo-based brake specialist. Chicane is the Australian distributor for DIXCEL, supplying the full one-piece rotor range covering everything from OE replacement to dedicated racing. The DIXCEL rotor lineup uses high-carbon iron metallurgy that delivers significantly better thermal crack resistance than standard discs — important on track-driven cars where repeated heavy braking will crack a budget rotor inside a single weekend. DIXCEL is the default choice when you want a quality one-piece rotor that pairs naturally with DIXCEL pads.

The DIXCEL one-piece rotor range covers:

  • DIXCEL PD
  • DIXCEL FP
  • DIXCEL SD
  • DIXCEL FS
  • DIXCEL HS
  • DIXCEL FC / FCR

Confirm the right DIXCEL rotor for your car and pad compound on the DIXCEL collection or contact us with your vehicle and how you drive.

Paragon Performance — Two-Piece Floating Rotors

Premium two-piece floating rotor specialist. The Paragon design is an aluminium hat bolted to a separate iron friction ring via floating drive bobbins — the friction ring "floats" in the hat, which means it can thermally expand independently of the hat without stressing or warping. The aluminium hat is significantly lighter than a one-piece equivalent, cutting unsprung mass at the wheel. And when the friction ring eventually wears out, you replace just the ring rather than the whole rotor assembly — a real long-term cost saving on cars that see serious track miles.

Paragon is the rotor choice when track use is regular and the build justifies the investment. Popular fitments on Chicane:

  • Toyota 86, GR86 and Subaru BRZ (ZN6, ZN8, ZC6, ZD8)
  • Honda Civic Type R FK8 and FL5
  • Nissan R35 GT-R
  • Subaru WRX and STI (VA, VB)
  • Mitsubishi Evo X
  • Toyota GR Yaris and GR Corolla

Browse the Paragon Performance collection for the full range.

Alcon (UK) — Motorsport Rotors

Tamworth-built bespoke rotors from one of motorsport's most credentialed brake manufacturers — F1, WRC, IMSA, Formula E and Aston Martin GT3 pedigree. Alcon rotors at Chicane are typically supplied as part of complete Alcon big brake kits (CAR97, CAR70, CAR89, CR6420 and the full motorsport range), or as matched-spec replacement discs for owners already running Alcon calipers. If you're running an Alcon BBK and need a fresh disc set, this is the brand. Browse the Alcon collection for kits and rotor applications.

One-Piece vs Two-Piece — Which Is Right For You?

The most common rotor question we get. The honest answer depends on how you actually drive the car, not what looks more impressive in the wheel well.

One-Piece (DIXCEL) — the right answer for most builds

A traditional one-piece rotor is a single iron casting that does the whole job — friction ring and hub integrated. Cheaper to manufacture, easier to replace, and on a street car or occasional-track car they do everything you need. DIXCEL's high-carbon metallurgy means even their one-piece rotors handle thermal stress significantly better than a budget OEM-equivalent disc. For 80%+ of buyers — daily-driven performance cars, weekend spirited drivers, occasional track-day cars — one-piece DIXCEL is the right answer.

Two-Piece Floating (Paragon) — when track miles get serious

A two-piece floating rotor splits the job. The aluminium hat handles the connection to the hub; the floating iron friction ring handles the heat and the braking. The friction ring expands and contracts thermally without stressing the hat, which means less warping and longer rotor life under sustained high-temperature use. The aluminium hat also saves real unsprung weight at each corner. The trade-off is cost — two-piece rotors are more expensive upfront. But on a serious track car, the replaceable friction rings mean you're only paying for new iron when it's worn, not a whole new rotor assembly. Over the life of a track-driven car, two-piece works out cheaper if you actually use it.

The honest call

If the car sees regular track days, time-attack or supersprint work — Paragon two-piece is the right answer and will save you money long-term. If the car is street-driven with occasional track days, DIXCEL one-piece with the right pad compound will do everything you need at a fraction of the price. If you're not sure which side of that line you're on, you're probably the DIXCEL buyer. Ask us if you want a second opinion.

Which Rotor For Your Driving?

Pick by how you actually use the car. Pair the rotor with the matching pad compound (see the brake pads page for the full DIXCEL compound walkthrough).

"I want a quiet daily-driver replacement"

DIXCEL one-piece, paired with M Type or Premium pads. Quiet, low dust, long rotor life, no track ambitions.

"I drive hard on weekends but no track days"

DIXCEL one-piece, paired with ES Type or Z Type pads. The slotted DIXCEL rotors help with pad gas evacuation under harder braking.

"I do regular track days on a street-registered car"

DIXCEL one-piece in a track-spec variant, paired with Z Type pads. The high-carbon metallurgy handles repeated heat cycling well. Move to Paragon two-piece if you're cracking rotors or finding the one-piece thermal capacity is the limit.

"The car is a dedicated track or time-attack build"

Paragon two-piece floating rotors. Lower unsprung mass, longer thermal life, replaceable friction rings. Pair with Z Type for street-registered track cars or RA/RE/Specom-β for race-only builds.

"I'm running an Alcon BBK and need replacement discs"

Alcon rotors — matched-spec for the kit you already have. Contact us with your Alcon caliper model and we'll confirm the right disc.

DIXCEL Rotors By Vehicle

Pads, Rotors and the Matched System

Rotors don't work in isolation. The pad compound determines what the rotor has to deal with, and the wrong combination means short rotor life or poor braking. The general pairings:

  • Premium / EC / M Type pads — pair with DIXCEL PD or FP for quiet daily driving
  • ES / S Type pads — pair with DIXCEL SD for spirited road use
  • Z Type pads — pair with DIXCEL SD or FS for street-and-track
  • Z Type pads + serious track use — pair with Paragon two-piece floating rotors
  • RA / RE / Specom-β motorsport pads — pair with DIXCEL FS, HS, FCR or Paragon two-piece — full track setup

Read the complete DIXCEL compound guide for the full pad-and-rotor matching walkthrough.

Frequently Asked

Do I need to replace my rotors when I replace my pads?

Almost always, yes. Old rotors absorb pad material from the previous compound, and bolting new pads onto them means the new pads will never bed properly. You'll get pulsation, contaminated friction surfaces and shortened pad life. The exception is low-mileage pads on still-good rotors of the same compound — in which case pads alone is fine. If you're changing compound (going from OEM to DIXCEL, or M Type to Z Type), replace both.

One-piece or two-piece — which one should I buy?

For 80%+ of buyers, one-piece DIXCEL is the right answer — daily-driven cars, weekend drivers and occasional track-day cars. Two-piece Paragon is the right answer when track use is regular and the build justifies the upfront cost. The replaceable friction rings on Paragon two-piece work out cheaper long-term on cars that genuinely use them.

Why do my rotors warp?

Most "warped rotors" aren't actually warped — they're pad material unevenly deposited on the rotor surface from poor bedding-in or a compound mismatch. True warping is rare and usually caused by repeated overheating beyond the rotor's thermal capacity. Either way, the fix is to address the bedding-in or step up to a rotor with better thermal capacity (DIXCEL high-carbon one-piece, or Paragon two-piece for serious track use).

Are slotted or drilled rotors better?

Slotted is better than drilled for almost every use case. Slots help degas the pad surface and refresh the friction face under hard braking. Drilled holes look aggressive but create stress risers that crack under sustained heat — they were originally designed for older asbestos pads that needed to vent gas, and modern pads don't need them. DIXCEL SD, FS and HS are all slotted, and that's the right approach for performance use.

How long do brake rotors last?

Depends on the rotor, the pad compound and how you drive. Quality one-piece DIXCEL rotors on a street car typically last 60,000–100,000 km. Track-driven cars chew through rotors much faster — sometimes a single hard weekend on the wrong pad. Two-piece Paragon rotors with replaceable friction rings extend service life significantly because you're not throwing away the hat when the friction ring wears.

Can I run DIXCEL pads with Paragon rotors?

Yes. Pads and rotors don't have to be the same brand. DIXCEL pads on Paragon two-piece floating rotors is a common track-build pairing — DIXCEL Z Type or motorsport compounds, Paragon floating ring for the thermal capacity. Contact us if you want help matching a specific combination.

Are DIXCEL rotors made in Japan?

Yes. Every DIXCEL rotor sold at Chicane is genuine Japanese product. Chicane is the Australian distributor.

Do Paragon rotors fit my factory calipers?

Depends on the application. Paragon two-piece rotors are vehicle-specific and many fitments are designed to bolt up to factory calipers as a direct upgrade — same outer diameter, same hat offset. Some fitments are for specific BBK applications. Check the Paragon vehicle list above or contact us with your car and we'll confirm.
