Garrett PowerMax Turbochargers
Garrett Motion has built turbochargers for more than 70 years, and its PowerMax range brings that engineering to direct-fit upgrades. Each PowerMax turbo replaces the factory unit using the original mounting points and connections, with a calibrated actuator and a larger, more efficient compressor for more airflow, more power potential and sharper throttle response. Choosing the Right Turbo
- PowerMax turbos are engine specific. Match the engine code first: FA20F/FA20E DIT (Subaru), EA888 Gen 3 2.0 TSI (VW/Audi) or VR30DDTT (Nissan Z).
- For the Golf R and S3, Stage 1 (up to 485 hp) keeps the factory feel with more top end, while the G25-660 Stage 2 (up to 600 hp) suits builds with fuel and supporting upgrades.
- Power figures are Garrett's capability ratings for the turbo itself. Real results depend on your supporting parts and ECU calibration.
Installation & What You'll Need
Installation by a professional is recommended. PowerMax turbos bolt in place of the factory unit, but the job involves oil and coolant lines and, on some cars, removing the intake and exhaust.
- New turbo gaskets and oil/coolant seals. The VW/Audi kits include a water, oil and gasket kit; the Subaru and Nissan turbos need gaskets bought separately.
- Prime the turbo with oil before first start.
- An ECU re-tune or custom calibration to make use of the extra airflow.
- A turbo speed sensor is recommended. Every PowerMax has a machined speed sensor port.
