AST Suspension | High-Performance Dampers & Coilovers

AST Suspension Coilovers & ALS Kits

We fit AST Suspension across a wide range of BMW, Porsche, Subaru and Audi platforms, from daily-driven street cars to dedicated track builds running at The Bend and Sydney Motorsport Park. AST's Dutch-engineered dampers and ALS spring kits are a genuine step up for drivers chasing real body control, not just a lower ride height. Below you'll find the range broken down by vehicle and by product type, plus what we've learned fitting these kits ourselves.

  • ALS (Adjustable Lowering Springs): Height-adjustable spring kits for vehicles with factory electronic dampers. Keeps your OE damper and drive modes working as intended, just at a lower, more controlled ride height.
  • 5100 Series Coilovers: 1-way damping adjustment, monotube construction. Suits street and semi-regular track use.
  • 5200 Series Coilovers: 2-way adjustable (compression and rebound), for drivers who want to fine-tune the platform for both road and circuit days.
  • 5300 Series Coilovers: 3-way adjustable, aimed at dedicated motorsport and time attack builds.
  • Fixed Lowering Springs: Progressive-rate springs for a lower stance and reduced body roll without changing the damper.
  • Air Jack Systems: Motorsport-grade lifting kits for quick trackside or pit lane vehicle lifting.
Why AST Suspension

AST builds its own dampers in-house rather than badge-engineering off-the-shelf cartridges, and it shows in how consistent they feel lap after lap or over a rough Sydney back road. The low-friction seal design means the damper reacts to small road inputs without the harshness you get from cheaper twin-tube units. On electronically damped platforms like later BMW and Porsche models, the ALS kit is the practical option: it drops the car and firms up the spring rate without confusing the factory dash or disabling drive mode settings. We've fitted ALS kits to cars where a full coilover swap would have meant deleting factory sensors, and it's not a compromise most owners notice day to day.

For cars running standard coilovers rather than electronic dampers, the 5100 through 5300 series give you a clear choice based on how the car is actually used. On a GR86 or 86/BRZ, we mostly fit the 5100 for a street car that still sees the odd track day, since the single adjuster is easy to live with and there's no factory electronic damper to work around. On a Porsche 987 Cayman running standard passive dampers, the 5200 is the common choice for owners doing regular track days, since the separate compression and rebound adjustment lets us tune the front and rear balance independently once the car's on faster circuits like The Bend. The 5300 tends to go on cars that rarely see the street at all: time attack builds and dedicated circuit cars where every corner of the setup gets adjusted between sessions. Exact spring rates are matched to the car, its weight and how it's driven, so talk to us with your chassis code before ordering rather than guessing off a generic rate chart.

Fitment & Installation

AST kits are largely application-specific, so confirming your exact chassis code and factory suspension type (standard, adaptive, or electronic damping) before ordering matters more with this brand than most. On BMW and Porsche models fitted with factory adaptive dampers from the factory, an ALS kit is usually the correct call rather than a full coilover, since swapping out the OE damper on these cars can trigger fault codes or remove functionality you'd otherwise keep.

Installation is straightforward for a qualified suspension shop, but we always recommend a wheel alignment straight after fitment given the change in ride height and camber curve. On some Subaru and Audi AWD platforms, front strut top hats and rear camber arms may need attention to get the geometry back in spec. If you're unsure which series or spring rate suits your car and how it's driven, tell us your chassis code and intended use and we'll point you at the right kit.

FAQ
What are AST ALS (Adjustable Lowering Springs)?

ALS kits are height-adjustable spring systems that replace your factory springs while keeping your original dampers. This suits cars with factory electronic suspension, since you can adjust ride height without triggering dash errors or losing drive modes.

Will an AST coilover work with my car's factory electronic dampers?

Generally no, a full coilover replaces the damper, so if your car has factory electronic damping, an ALS kit is the correct option instead. If you're not sure what your car has fitted from factory, let us know the chassis code and we'll check.

Are the 5100 and 5200 series suitable for street use?

Yes. Both are used on plenty of street-driven cars we've fitted them to. They have motorsport-derived internals, but the low-friction design gives a more compliant ride than many budget coilovers, even at firmer settings.

Does Chicane fit AST Suspension kits, or just supply the parts?

We fit AST Suspension ourselves and can advise on spring rates, ALS configuration and alignment settings based on how you use the car.

Do I need an alignment after fitting AST coilovers or ALS springs?

Yes. Any ride height change affects camber and toe, so a wheel alignment straight after install is essential to protect tyre wear and get the handling benefit you're paying for.

Not sure which AST kit suits your car? Get in touch with your chassis code and how you drive it, and we'll point you in the right direction.
