Brake Rotors

Performance Brake Rotors — DIXCEL & Paragon

Chicane Australia stocks two brake rotor ranges and two only — DIXCEL from Japan for OEM-replacement performance rotors, and Paragon from America for 2-piece competition rotors. Between them, these two brands cover every use case from a daily-driven Civic Type R through to a Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport running on-track. We don't stock budget cast rotors because we don't believe in them; brakes are the wrong place to compromise. Everything in this collection is engineered to handle heat, resist cracking and deliver consistent bite — whether you're replacing worn factory rotors or stepping up to a motorsport-grade 2-piece setup.

One-Piece vs Two-Piece Rotors — What's the Difference?

One-Piece Rotors (DIXCEL)

A traditional single-piece cast iron rotor, where the friction ring and centre hat are one continuous casting. This is how every car leaves the factory. One-piece rotors are the right choice for street cars and moderate track use where you want a direct replacement for the OEM part — better metallurgy, better heat management, better longevity, same fitment. DIXCEL's rotor range is the best example of this done properly: Japanese-spec high-carbon cast iron with stepped heat treatment, engineered to match the pad compounds DIXCEL manufactures.

Two-Piece Rotors (Paragon)

A cast iron friction ring bolted to a CNC-machined aluminium centre hat. Two main advantages:

  • Weight reduction — typically 3–4kg per corner versus OEM, or up to 25% lighter. Unsprung and rotating mass reduction has roughly double the dynamic effect of sprung weight reduction, so it's felt immediately in steering response, ride quality and acceleration/braking response.
  • Thermal isolation — aluminium is a poor conductor of heat, so the aluminium hat acts as an insulator between the friction ring and the wheel bearing/hub. This keeps heat where it belongs (in the friction surface where it can radiate away) and out of the bearing, where it causes premature failure.
  • Serviceability — when the friction ring wears out, you replace just the ring, not the whole rotor. Over the life of a track car this saves significant money versus replacing one-piece rotors.

Two-piece rotors are the right choice for track-driven cars, time attack builds, and any street car where unsprung weight reduction is the goal.

DIXCEL Rotors — Japanese OE-Replacement Performance

DIXCEL is the Japanese brake brand of choice for serious drivers on factory caliper setups. Chicane Australia is the official Australian DIXCEL distributor. The rotor range covers:

PD (Premium Disc)

Plain-faced (non-slotted) OEM-replacement rotor. High-carbon cast iron construction for better thermal stability than factory rotors, corrosion-resistant surface treatment, and a black-painted centre hat that resists rust on Australian roads. The right choice for street-driven cars where you want a quiet, clean, OE-style upgrade.

SD (Slotted Disc)

Six-slot rotor for improved cold bite and better pad-gas evacuation. Slots help keep the pad surface fresh, which matters in wet conditions and under repeated hard braking. A popular choice for spirited road cars and light track-day use — visually distinctive, functionally better than plain, and no more expensive than the PD.

FS (Floating Slotted) & FP (Floating Plain)

DIXCEL's two-piece rotor range, where available. Semi-floating construction with an aluminium centre hat, similar in concept to the Paragon two-piece but built to DIXCEL's own spec and matched specifically to DIXCEL pad compounds.

HD (Heavy Duty)

Thicker, heavier rotor for larger vehicles and high-thermal applications. Used for GT-R, Evo, Supra and similar heavy performance platforms where rotor mass is part of the thermal capacity calculation.

DIXCEL rotors are fitment-specific to each vehicle, and the compound is matched to work optimally with DIXCEL pads. Pairing DIXCEL rotors with DIXCEL pads is the simplest way to build a complete performance brake package for a street or weekend-track car.

Paragon Two-Piece Rotors — Race-Proven Weight Reduction

Paragon is an American brake specialist with a motorsport engineering background — their rotors are used in TCR, GT4, Porsche Cup and BMW Racing Cup competition. The street and club-racer range uses the same engineering philosophy, in many cases with the same part numbers as the race kit.

Construction

High-carbon cast iron friction ring, CNC-machined 6061-T6 aluminium centre hat, with stainless steel floating hardware (H-Bobbin, D-Bobbin, T-Bobbin or S-Bobbin depending on the application). Paragon also offers fixed-hat non-floating configurations for street-focused setups where the minor thermal expansion noise of a full-floating rotor isn't desired.

Direct Bolt-On to Factory Calipers

Paragon 2-piece rotors are engineered as a direct replacement for the OEM one-piece rotor, with no bracket changes or caliper offset issues. Fit over a weekend in the garage, keep all your factory calipers, pads and lines.

Replacement Friction Rings

When the friction ring wears out, you replace just the ring — the aluminium centre hat and floating hardware are reusable. Paragon manufactures replacement rings for their own rotors as well as for AP Racing, Alcon, Brembo, DBA, Endless, PFC and StopTech two-piece rotors, often at significantly less cost than the OEM-brand replacement.

Size Range

Paragon rotors are available from 277mm up to 410mm in thicknesses from 9mm to 38mm. This covers everything from a rear rotor on a smaller sports car through to the largest front rotor on a heavy performance SUV or supercar.

Choosing the Right Rotor for Your Use Case

Daily Driving — OEM Replacement

If your factory rotors are worn, warped, or cracked and you want a quiet, clean, OE-style upgrade, go DIXCEL PD. Better metallurgy than factory, quiet under braking, no pad compatibility issues. Pair with a DIXCEL M Type pad for a low-dust, low-noise daily driver setup.

Spirited Street & Occasional Track Days

For a performance car driven hard on road with the occasional track day, step up to DIXCEL SD (slotted) rotors for better cold bite and gas evacuation. Pair with DIXCEL Z Type pads. For cars on capable OEM calipers (Civic Type R, STI, BMW M Sport, Mustang GT), Paragon 2-piece rotors are the upgrade that delivers the biggest single improvement in steering response and brake feel.

Regular Track Days & Club Racing

At this level, rotor thermal capacity is what matters. Paragon 2-piece rotors with a track-compound pad (DIXCEL Z, ES or RE/Specom) is the standard setup for serious club-level cars on factory calipers. The two-piece construction dumps more heat to atmosphere and protects the hub bearing from the thermal load.

Time Attack & Motorsport

Paragon's motorsport-spec two-piece rotors — the same rings used in TCR and GT4 cars — are available as full rotor assemblies or as replacement rings to service existing Alcon, AP Racing or Brembo two-piece setups.
