Wavetrac Differential Australia: ATB, Helical & Torque Biasing LSD Range
We fit Wavetrac differentials into our own project cars and our customers' daily drivers, from Sydney street commutes to full days lapping The Bend, so we know this range inside out. Every unit here is a genuine Wavetrac part, not a generic LSD with a sticker on it: proper ATB (Automatic Torque Biasing) design for the VW/Audi and Toyota platforms, and helical or torque biasing units for BMW. If you're chasing better traction out of corners without the clunk and lock-up of a clutch-type LSD, this is where to start.
The lineup covers front diffs for MQB and 02Q-based VW/Audi cars, the GR Yaris and GR Corolla front and rear units, and BMW E46/E9X/E8X rear diffs including the true torque biasing options for 135i and 335i. We also stock the install kits (bearings, ARP bolts) that most gearbox swaps actually need, because the diff alone isn't the whole job.
Wavetrac diffs suit cars that see real driving: track days, autocross, spirited backroad runs, and daily use in the wet. If you're unsure which unit or install kit matches your gearbox code, get in touch before you order.

Why Wavetrac
Wavetrac's ATB design uses helical gears to bias torque to the wheel with grip, without the on/off lock-up feel of a clutch-pack diff. That means predictable behaviour in daily driving and real traction gains when you're on the power out of a corner. We recommend it for GR Yaris and GR Corolla owners who want the front diff to actually do something, for Golf R and RS3 drivers chasing corner exit traction, and for BMW owners moving away from an open diff or a tired factory LSD. It's a proven design with a long track record in club motorsport and daily-driven performance cars alike.
Fitment & Installation
Gearbox code matters more than model year here. On Golf GTI, Jetta and Audi A3 (8P) cars, the diff you need depends on whether the car runs an 02A cable-shift box or an 02Q/0A3-style unit, so check your gearbox code stamped on the housing before ordering, not just the model year. Golf R (MK5 through MK8) and RS3/TT RS cars are simpler in one sense: they're MQB or MQB-derived DQ250/DQ500 DSG platforms, but the front diff still has to match the specific gearbox casting, so confirm against the sub-collection listing rather than assuming any "Golf R diff" is universal across generations.
BMW fitment depends on final drive ratio (axle codes like 188K or 215K), so match the diff to your existing ratio unless you're changing gears too. The E-series collection above covers non-M E39/E46/E8X/E9X cars (3 Series, 1 Series and similar), while the M3/M5/M6 collection is specifically for the M-variant chassis, which run different diff housings and in some cases different torque biasing units to their non-M siblings. If you're not sure whether your E46 or E92 is the M3 or a standard 3 Series, check your chassis and engine code first, the wrong housing won't bolt up.
Most 02Q and 02A installs need fresh bearings and ARP bolts, which is what our install kits cover; reusing worn OEM bearings is the most common way to turn a good install into a noisy one. GR Yaris and GR Corolla share the same basic diff housing, but the GR Corolla's AWD system runs different transfer case and driveline hardware, so always confirm the exact unit against your model before ordering. Both are a straightforward swap for anyone comfortable pulling the diff housing, but we still recommend a professional install for correct backlash and preload.

FAQ
Is a Wavetrac diff better than the OEM open diff? For any car sending more than stock power through the wheels, yes. It gives you usable traction on corner exit instead of the inside wheel spinning uselessly. See our full breakdown in the Wavetrac vs OEM guide linked above.
Do I need an install kit with my diff? Most 02A and 02Q gearbox swaps do. The bearings take a real hit during install and reusing tired OEM ones is asking for noise or premature wear. Our install kit guide covers exactly what's in the kit and why.
My car is an E46 or E92, do I use the E-series collection or the M3 collection? The E-series collection is for non-M cars (standard 3 Series and similar). The M3/M5/M6 collection is specifically for the M-variant chassis, which use different diff housings. Check your chassis and engine code, not just the body shape, before choosing.
Will this fit my Australian-delivered car? Fitment is based on gearbox or axle code, not just model year, so check your build's specific code or contact us to confirm before ordering.
What's the difference between ATB, helical and torque biasing? They're related designs with different bias ratios and behaviour under load. If you're not sure which suits your car, get in touch and we'll point you the right way.
