The Wavetrac differential is a genuinely clever piece of engineering from Autotech Driveline in the USA. Unlike a standard helical torque biasing diff, the Wavetrac features patented cam technology that prevents the unit from behaving like an open differential during zero axle load conditions — a common failure point that leaves you spinning a wheel and going nowhere. This makes it a strong choice for street performance, track days, and spirited driving in BMW E46, E87, E90, E60 and related platforms.

This listing covers the Wavetrac differential for the BMW 188K axle with a final drive ratio over 3.15. Compatible platforms include the E46 325i, 328i and 330i (automatic, 1998–2005) with bolt-on ring gear; E9X 325i, 328i, 330i and 335i (automatic from 9/2007); E8X 135i (automatic from 2008), E8X 128i (2008 onward), E8X Z4 2.5i and 3.0i; and the E60 525i, 528i and 530i (automatic).

Important: On all E9X, E8X, and E60 applications listed above, some ring gears may be welded to the OEM differential carrier. Welded ring gear assemblies require machining before installation. Installation kits are sold separately — please confirm your ring gear configuration before ordering.
