Frenkit Caliper Rebuild Kits for Subaru WRX / STI
Frenkit Caliper Rebuild Kit for Subaru WRX / STI
We fit Frenkit caliper rebuild kits into WRX and STI calipers all the time, from tired old GC8s doing weekend Sydney street duty to GRB and VA cars getting freshened up before a track day at The Bend. Subaru has run two very different caliper families over the years: the Sumitomo units on GC/GD/GE cars, and the Brembo units on GDB, GRB and VA models. Frenkit makes a specific rebuild kit for each, so you're not stuck guessing which seals fit.

Why Frenkit
Old caliper seals go hard and let the pistons stick, which shows up as uneven pad wear, a car that pulls under brakes, or a pedal that feels soft after sitting overnight. A Frenkit caliper rebuild kit gets the factory seals, dust boots and often the pistons back to as-new condition without the expense of a full caliper swap. We stock Frenkit because the kits are built to the original caliper tolerances, whether that's a Sumitomo 4-pot off a GC8 or a Brembo unit off a GRB STI. It's the same logic that applies to Frenkit vs OEM caliper seals on the Evo, 370Z and Porsche 911 platforms we also carry: correct-fit rubber at a sensible spend, not a generic universal kit.
Fitment & Installation
Confirm your caliper type before ordering. GC8 and early GD WRX run Sumitomo calipers front and rear, while GDB STI, GRB STI and VA WRX/STI run Brembo. [VERIFY: exact model year split between Sumitomo and Brembo caliper generations for AU-delivered WRX/STI]. Mixed-spec cars and grey imports can catch people out, so check the casting on the caliper body if you're unsure. Rebuilding a caliper means winding the pistons out cleanly, cleaning the bore properly and fitting new seals without twisting them; rushing the piston seal is the most common way to end up with a caliper that weeps down the track. If you're doing this for the first time, budget more time than you think and have brake fluid on hand.

FAQ
How do I know if I need Sumitomo or Brembo seals?
GC/GD/GE WRX run Sumitomo calipers. GDB and GRB STI, and VA WRX/STI, run Brembo. [VERIFY: exact model year split]. Check your caliper casting if you're not sure which generation you have.
Can I rebuild the caliper myself?
Yes, most home mechanics with basic tools can do it. Clean working conditions and care with the piston seal groove make the difference between a good rebuild and a leaky one.
Does a rebuild kit include new pistons?
Some Frenkit kits include pistons and guide pins, others are seals only. This varies by kit, so check the specific listing for what's included before you order.
Will this fit my JDM-spec WRX?
Most kits cover both Australian-delivered and JDM-spec calipers within the same generation, but always match by caliper casting rather than model year alone.
