IHI VF34 Turbocharger Subaru WRX / STI / Forester XT / Liberty GT (EJ20 / EJ25)

The IHI VF34 Turbocharger is a high-performance, bolt-on upgrade for Subaru WRX, STI, Forester XT, and Liberty GT models equipped with EJ20, EJ22, and EJ25 engines. Standard on all STI models from late 2001, the VF34 offers the same specifications as the VF30 but features a ball bearing cartridge assembly, delivering faster spool and improved throttle response.

With its ball bearing design, 479 compressor wheel, and P18 turbine housing, the VF34 spools approximately 250–500 RPM quicker than the VF30, making it an excellent all-round performer. It is capable of holding boost to higher RPM compared to the factory TD04 turbo, while still offering quick spool characteristics. Although slightly more laggy than the TD04, the difference is minimal, and the VF34 provides significantly better top-end performance.

Sharing the same exhaust housing and compressor as the VF30, the VF34’s ball bearing core achieves full boost sooner without sacrificing maximum output, making it a great balance between response and power.
